Srinagar: Students are aghast over lack of a proper garbage dumping space at Women’s College, M.A Road, Srinagar.
There is no closed dumping yard in the college and the garbage is piled in open outside the zoology department.
The students face a lot of problems owing to the stink it creates and water logging on rainy days.
“Many a times we are forced to bunk our classes to save ourselves from the strong smell coming from the garbage. Besides water logging also harms the health of students as the space in full of mosquitoes and other insects,” said a student of zoology department.
The students also alleged that many a times the garbage is set on fire by the people responsible for college cleanliness which creates toxic gases near the place.
Senior cleaner of the college, Ghulam Qadir Sheikh said that there was no alternative space for the dumping of the college waste. He said that Srinagar Municipal Corporation authorities fail to lift the garbage from the area regularly.
